fun fun fun for everyone

speechin' it up

Last weekend we got the privilege of attending my littler brother, Tanner, (not to be confused with my little brother, Levi, or my littlest brother, Maverick) graduate from high school. He was the Valedictorian of his class and he did a great job on his speech! Even if the sound system was terrible and it sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher during most of the ceremony and that we didn't take the right lens for our camera, I'm so glad we could be there for all of it!

mmmm...candy shop pizza

I also got to hang out with my mom and help out with project graduation on Friday night, they had inflatable games and bingo and soooo much food (which was all fantastic) and another CHS alum doing caricatures for the seniors.

Tanner & Landon should still be the size of Maverick and Jalen, I'm sure of it.

It was so fun to get to spend the weekend with my family and see some old friends too.  Here are a whole lotta pics from the weekend.

29 weeks 3 days

This weekend we also got started on Jonah's room, yay!

OK, so all I did was hang things in the closet and put a playmat on the floor, but progress is progress.

normal...?

I really want to write about our adventures of Memorial Day weekend, but I really can't bring myself to say anything other than that about the devastation of our city. Jacob and I have lived here for almost 7 years now, this is where we met, graduated from college and were married 4 years ago (as of June 2nd). This was where our first home is, where we found out our little family is growing and where our little furbabies joined us too. Joplin will always hold a special place in our hearts. As much as we couldn't wait to get out of this place as soon as Jacob was done with school, this has been our home. We have made friends here that have moved on and friends that have stayed, none of these people will we ever forget. It has been amazing to see this city grow with us since we moved here as individuals and continue to grow as a couple.

I don't even really know where to start, but I'm going to try. Last Sunday, one week and one day ago, an F5 tornado ripped through a lot of Joplin. I'm sure by now you've seen this city on the news somewhere, Joplin was on CNN and the weather channel and countless other channels over the last week, I think we even made international news. This was huge.

I have struggled a lot this last week seeing so many people hurting and feeling so helpless about what to do, other than cry with them, hug them, and tell them how happy we are that they are safe. No damage was done to our house in any way and we are all accounted for, I want to say that God protected us and kept us safe, which He did, but I feel guilty using those words when other people lost everything, including loved ones. I feel guilty that we still have our house and our family and that the only thing we lost in the storm was internet for a few days. The family I work for lost a lot of their things, but Amy has been such an encouragement to me and those around her this last week. She knows that stuff can be replaced, but is so grateful her kids and husband are safe that it speaks volumes about who she is as a mother and wife and friend. I hope that when the time of trial and trouble come in my life, I can face it like she has.

I have no idea what normal is anymore, and I don't think normal will ever be what it was. To look around this city breaks my heart for the people who live here and for this baby I have yet to even see. His first home has been torn apart before he even gets to see it with his own eyes, he won't ever know the beautiful place we used to live in. When he is born there will be empty lots where houses used to be, parks with no trees, and half a town that no longer looks familiar to its very own residents.

I hope now I can write about more fun things, until then keep on keepin on Joplin.

pants

this baby is already pretty opinionated and seems to be certain of what he wants and when...this can't be good, can it? apparently he doesn't like it much when i wear pants, he just sits and kicks at whatever sits on my waistline...jeans, maternity jeans, leggings, sweats, yoga pants, you know any sort of pants. lucky for me it's sorta warm here now and maternity dresses are super cute.

yesterday i had my 28 week appointment, which went really well. we got to hear his little heartbeat and everything is looking good so far! i had to take the glucose tolerance test while i was there and the drink wasn't bad, but it made me feel really crummy for the rest of the day, i hope that's not a bad sign, but i think i should know what the verdict is by friday (hopefully sooner though).

tomorrow is my very last final for this semester and i'm so ready to be done with it and onto summer. this summer is going to be so crazy and i know that it is going to fly by. i only have one more monthly appointment before i start going every two weeks. eep. annnnd we know people graduating and getting married and fun pictures to take and things to learn about childbirth and people to visit. the one and only part about summer i don't think i'll love is the heat, but our air conditioner is awesome. no new pictures this week, or if i have some i haven't uploaded them...i can't remember.

the dishwasher debacle...oh and mother's day too!

mother's day  (and old hair)
what a week it has been, well couple weeks really....yipes. our dishwasher is broken and it has been such a pain. we thought it was going to get fixed today, but it's already 2 o'clock and the fix it man has only been by to look at the counter and say he'll be back sometime today (maybe). boo. at least it's spring time and jacob loves to grill and target sells paper plates.

and a baby bump pic (26w5d)
new hair...hooray!
onto more fun things, like mother's day earlier this week. i wasn't sure if we were going to celebrate that or father's day this year, but we did, and we celebrated in style. jacob had a whole day of fun planned, we stopped at chili's in pittsburg, then we took some pictures outside, then we saw something borrowed at the theater, had mcallister's for dinner and stopped by orange leaf. yum. we didn't eat at orange leaf though, because 1.) the line was out the door and 2.) i had already eaten there 3times in the two days prior. so, i like frozen yogurt. it could be something worse, like bacon, ok, so i love that too. :)

then today, as a mother's day gift to me/it's getting really hot here and it's only may 10, i got a haircut and i got a lot of hair cut. i absolutely love it and am so glad i did it! yay!

i cannot believe i am about to finish my second trimester...it's so crazy, this little guy is going to be here before we know it, and i cannot wait to see his ittybitty face!

jonah is so our baby

so, i thought it would be fun if we put some headphones up to my baby belly to see what little baby jonah likes to listen to. we tried the beatles, vampire weekend, one republic, then some pandora. nothing, not even a little jig from this guy. we finally gave up and i had my evening snack of cookies and milk...the kid started flipping around like never before. i told jacob that this must be his kid...jacob said he definitely  belongs to us.

we also met our pediatrician this week. we will be seeing dr. teeter in joplin. she is opening her new office later this month and we are so excited to get to know her...because the next time we see her it will be when this little guy makes his arrival. yay!

i am getting so excited to start getting the nursery together, i'm hoping this weekend we can get rooms moved around and maybe even some baby stuff where it goes. (it is starting to take over the living room...yipes.)
